Abdullah Al Md Yasin

:

My name is Yasin Abdullah and I am a 25 years old freelance photographer and a photo journalism student studying at the south Asian Institute of media study and Photography (Pathsala). I am actually from a small town in the south named Jessore. I came to Dhaka about eight years ago and started living in here.I have completed my Bachelor in social science and got involved with a major theater troupe in Dhaka. While working in the theater I’ve got fascinated with the light and people. I have stared photography about three years ago.

I am really interested in people and I like photographing people. As time went by, I have learned how strong an image can convey massages and give information in a lot realistic way.Images can help reminiscing the time that we are living.

Looking forward to meet new friends from Oslo and share Knowledge.

Yasin.

I have three Ideas that i’d like to do during the workshop in chittagong.

1. Longest beach in the world:

Id like to do a reportage on how the beach culture is at cox’s bazar sea beach and how it is changing the look of the city. More hotels and buildings are growing and more people started living there. Cox’s bazar sea beach has got the entry in the worlds new seven wonders and seems like grabbing the attraction of the tourists.

2. Chittagong hill tracts :

Would like to show the life style of an indigenous tribe named Baum. How they are living in the mountains.

3. Fishermen:

In the coastal area of Chittagong lots of people are living on fishing. They go to the deep sea to fish without caring about their life. Because of the climate change issues more cyclones are about to hit in the bay of Bengal. Id like to show an overview of the climate change and how it is changing the life of these fishermen.

Avik Adnan Siddiqui:

Hello, I am Avik. I have been working as a photographer for information ministry for six years. Before that I had worked at BFDC as an assistant cinematographer and had also worked in color lab. Photography is an addiction to me.

I want to do portrait story in this workshop about women in Bangladeh. That’s all.

Emrul kamal:

Hi, This is Emrul, living in Dhaka and my hometown is Cox’s Bazar, and very near to the longest sandy sea beach of the world. Basically I’m a student. Beside this, Im doing job in a newspaper as a Sub-Editor & Photographer. I also do freelance photography. Beside this, I’m studying at Pathshala.

Regards,

Emrul Kamal

My Ideas:

1. Ship Breaking Yard:

Im interested to work in ship breaking yard in chittagong. It’s the largest breaking yard of the world.

2. Life in Refugee Camp & UNHCR

I also interested to work refugee camp in Teknaf, Ukhia & works of UNHCR.

3. Dry Fish worker

There is big market of Dry Fish in Cox’s Bazar & Chittagong. There work lots of people. Most of the worker’s whole family involved with this.

4. Home less people on Beach

Some refugees & other homeless people live beside the beach by making illegal slums. And they involved in tourist harassment and other illegal works.

M Shamsul Hoque Komol:

I am M Shamsul Hoque Komol & I am 28 years old, completed my graduation on Bachelor of Business Administration. My home town is Narayanganj , but last 12 years I live in Dhaka. I started photography about 7 years ago & now working in a magazine as a photographer. For professional reason I have to do fashion & wedding photography most, but I have a soft corner about documentary photography.

My Ideas:

Aila Effected Shatkhira:

Want to take photographs of cyclone aila affected peoples of Shatkhra . They are living their life which is really tough to live. But still they have hoped any they are trying.

Life around Shangu River:

Shangu river is one and only river of Bandarban. Many people live around this rive and I want to take the life around this river

Life of Rohinga Refugees:

I want collect in depth knowledge about the life of rohinga refugees and take the photographs.

Sheikh Wahid Adnan Bashar:

Hello Comrades, I am Wahid Adnan , 29 years old man from Chittagong. I finished my study on law from Chittagong University and soon lost my interest being a lawyer. I left the bar and came to Dhaka to study photojournalism in Pathshala-South Asian Institute of Photography. Besides studying there, I am currently working with DrikNEWS, an international news photo agency.

My Ideas:

1. Rohinga Refugees:

The Rohingya, a Muslim minority population in Myanmar, have fled severe repression and persecution in their homeland and sought refuge in Bangladesh and other neighboring countries for more than 50 years. Few of them find the assistance they desperately need and instead are forced to survive in huge makeshift camps with little or no basic amenities, including food or water. I am interested on how they earn money to carry on their living.

2. Retired Person:

Retirement is a point when a person stops his/her job completely due to age or some other reasons like illness or accident. Retirement is a somehow bizarre condition for a person who works for his employer for long time. I faced a temporary retirement(!) for four months from my work due to my illness that made me deadly bored as I had nothing to do or I wasn’t allowed to do anything . I want to see how a retired person, who worked for almost 30/35 years, tastes his/her retirement.

Tushikur Rahman:

Hello, My name is Tushikur Rahman, my friends call me ‘Tushik’. I live in Dhaka, Bangladesh. I am studying photojournalism at Pathshala. I work as a freelancer. Besides Photography I like music, books, traveling, hanging out with friends.

My ideas:

1. Aftermath:

Cyclone Aila, which hit the Bangladesh / India border on May 25, caused substantial damage across areas of southern Bangladesh and West Bengal. Up to 1 million people were estimated to have been affected and a large number of people are still living in temporary shelters. Surviving residents are now receiving aid, mourning the lost, beginning to rebuild. I want to go the effected areas and tell the stories of their living condition of now.

2. Sundarban widows:

People are building their houses very near to forest. every year many people are bieng attacked by the tigers of Shundarban. I want to make a story on the victims of tiger attacks.

Arifur Rahman Munir:

I am Arifur Rahman Munir, born in 1967. I am a printer by profession. Now studying  at Pathshala, The South Asian Institute of Photography.

I want to explore Nepal with an individual or a group of inhabitants who are willing to lodge me at their place through my stay in their country. while living with them i want to explore their profession and their life through my lens. from example i could lodge with an individual downtown bar owner whose bar might not be very popular but it may be a reflection of the owner’s individuality and personality.

through my stay in nepal i would also like to choose a specific place at a specific time of the day for a few consecutive days where i would sit in one specific place for the purpose of exploring that single frame of view ithrough my lens. i want to scrutinize the diversity a single view can hold on various days, at a similar point of time.

Jannatul Mawa:

Hi, I am Jannatul Mawa. I live in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. I have been working on photography for the last one year. I am a student of 3rd semester of first year at the Pathshala. As an activist I have been working on women’s rights and violence against women (VAW) issues for quite long time. In my work I have tried to focus on women. Actually, people are my favorite subject; they are my passion, including human portrait and documentaries. My photographic works on specific issues were used in national daily newspapers, including documentaries of national and international NGOs.

This trip will be important for me to take good photo reportages. I look forward to seeing you all.

Best regards,

Mawa.

These are my ideas on Nepal,

1. Changes in Youth:

I want to work on young generation of Nepal, specifically what changes the tourism and recent-past political unrest have brought in among the youths in Nepal.

2. Women Empowerment

I want to work on women issues – women’s rights and dignity, including their participation in decision-making at family, in the society and country.

3. Old home.

Md. Anisul Hoque:

Hi , I am Mohammad Anisul Hoque. I was born in Chittagong and passed my childhood in that area . In those days I liked to travel in deep forest and mountain . May be , for that reason now I choose to be a bonsai artist . To me bonsai is a way to establish a special link with nature .

I have successfully completed The Basic Course and Foundation Course of photography organized by Pathshala (The South Asian Institute of Photography ) . Now, I am looking for a challenging and rewarding career path that offers the opportunity for growth and development and to create some values for the country . For that I am studying in Diploma Course of Photography in Pathshala .

I would like to make a story about young people of Kathmandu . Nepal is an underdeveloped nation and option for young Nepalese have been historically very limited . Now in Nepal young people have made massive gains and they could shake the rotten foundations of capitalist society and play a crucial role in the creation of a new better world.

Secondly, I would like to make a story on Tibetan refugees . In the early 1960s the Nepalese government established four temporary Settlements for the Tibetan refugees . Chialsa is one of them . It is in the Solu Khumbu mountain range east of Kathmandu . I would like to work there .

Finally my choice is Bhaktaour . It is listed as a World Heritage by UNESCO for it’s rich culture , temples and art work of wood metal and stone . I would also like to make a story about the people of Bhaktapur .

Best regards ,

Anis

It’s my first time visit to Nepal. It’s a very beautiful country.

I’m especially looking forward to this trip. I hope and believe that it will be a memorable trip and a chance to make some great photos reportages.

My ideas are,

1. Bouddhanath Stepa( Temple):

Bouddhanath is among the largest stupas in South Asia, and it has become the focal point of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal. When refugees entered Nepal from Tibet in the 1950s, many of them decided to live around Bouddhanath. So I want to work on Boudhnath stepa.

2. Sagarmatha National Park:

Sagarmatha is an exceptional area with dramatic mountains, glaciers and deep valleys, dominated by Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world (8,848 m). Several rare species, such as the snow leopard and the lesser panda, are found in the park. The presence of the Sherpas, with their unique culture, adds further interest to this site.

Nurul Ryad Han:

Hi ! i am a student of pathsala (south asian institute of  photography), where i start my bachelor programme on photography and still trying to learn the language of visual world. Nepal is the prime place for me to do photography and i am enough excited about this trip and the begining workshop. Now am planing to make some better work on it and wish that, it will be a memorable trip for me with my freinds.

have a nice day.

Han.

My Plan:

1. in a dolpo village:

primarily i liked to potray on an ethenic tribes who still hold their old form of language and culture. this ethinic tribe live in the remot part of nepal. Dolpo was for centuries a relatively independent region in constant economic and cultural interaction with the greater, rivaling political powers that surrounded it. Dolpo was always too rugged, sparsely populated, and distant from the major passes over the Himalaya to become a major political entity: it was instead a pawn in the power struggles of competing kingdoms like Lo and Jumla, which sought control of trade routes across the Himalaya. Pastoralists and farmers living in the trans-Himalayan region were drawn into networks of exchange, cycles that often followed the calendar of religious festivals.

2. kathmundu, city of glory:

its history , art & culture , their ever changing life style, ritual & belief

Rasel Chowdhury:

Hello, My name is Rasel Chowdhury and I’m 22 years old. I live in Dhaka. It’s my Birth place. I have been taking pictures for last five years, but back then it was just for hobby. In 2008 I decided to try and learn some more about it. A year ago I moved to Pathshala to study photojournalism.

I am planning to spend my time at Kathmandu in Nepal. I have never travel before in abroad and this is my first travel that will last for a long period of time . I am really looking forward to visit and experience Nepal and the cultural differences, and to meet new and interesting people and share our views on photography.

1. Tibetan refugees:

Nepal is a tiny landlocked country sandwiched between China and India. Nepal shares a common border with China of over a good 1200 km. In particular, this border in northern Nepal is shared with the Tibet Autonomous Region in China. The ongoing Tibetan protests against China have placed Nepal and its people in an awkward position. I have yet to see a story on this subject from Nepal, where there are a large amount of refugees.

2, Old Age Home:

I’m also interested to work on Old age home in Nepal. I sow that kind of work before and it will be very interesting.

3. Finally:

I’m interested to work on Temple where Hindus and Buddhist pray together at the same time and same temple area. Traditional Dress in Nepal is my another interest.

Rokshana Islam Beauty:

I am Rokshana Islam Beauty. I am Bangladeshi. I was born in Chandpur. I studied in general subjects. I was interested on handicrafts from childhood. I also worked on handicrafts and boutiques. I wanted to become an painter and to achieve that did a diploma on Fine Arts from Bulbul Academy. I participated in 12th Asian Biennial Art Bangladesh at 2006. Also participated in various art exhibitions and from 2002 to 2009 I joined Rashed Smriti Porishod. I had my inspiration for photography from painting. I am doing serious photography for last two years. I love to take portraits most.

Exhibition based research work on Liberation war 1971 – on behalf of Drik Picture Library is one of my remarkable work. I want to stablish myself as photographer.

This is the first time I am going abroad. So, my feelings and experiences abroad will be for the firs time.

1. Religious rituals (Puja):

I want to work on Hindu religion.

2. About Women:

I want to work on a Nepali women during my visit to Nepal.

Sayed Asif Mahmud:

I am Sayed Asif Mahmud,a dreamer in the fraternity of photography. Working as a freelance photographer for the past two years. Currently I am studying in University of Dhaka along with being a fresher in Pathshala, South Asian Institute of Photography.

I want to portray the ethnic group, ‘Kusunda’ in Nepal.

“The Kusunda people of central Nepal have long been regarded as a relic tribe of South Asia. They are, or were until recently, seminomadic hunter-gatherers, living in jungles and forests, with a language that shows no similarities to surrounding languages”.They are considered as ‘probably the most endangered species of the aboriginal ethnic groups of Nepal’. I think it will be a very important documentation.

Soumitra Barua:

Hello, my name is Soumitra Barua. I’m 23 years old. Im from Bangladesh. I’m a student of photo journalism. I like to take portrait based picture. I like music, travelling, cricket and playing video games. I have been selected from my Pathshala to visit to Nepal. I’m very excited to see Nepal because, this is my first visit outside my country.

What I want to work during my visit to Nepal,

1. Water problem:

What I feel to work in Nepal, I have heard that Durga Dhara is a place from where water are supplied. As people queue up with their buckets and various other water containers, they also serve as a meeting place where people spend hours every day. It is still mostly a women’s job to carry water, but boys and men do take their turn as well. Everyone needs water. Unfortunately things like, work, education and improving living conditions are sometimes pushed aside by the necessity of water.

2. Life style of Sadhu:

Also I’m interested in learning Sadhu’s living in Nepal. I have got some knowledge about their daily living. In Hinduism, sadhu is a common term for a mystic, an ascetic, practitioner of yoga (yogi) and/or wandering monks. The sadhu is solely dedicated to achieving the fourth and final Hindu goal of life, moksha (liberation), through meditation and contemplation of Brahman. Sadhus often wear ochre-colored clothing, symbolizing renunciation.

Best regards.

Syed Ashraful Alam:

Hello, My full name is Syed Ashraful Alom. Nick name Tito. I was born in 1978 a small village Alokdia in the district of Magura. I love music specially instrumental and read books.

Now I’m a freelance photographer based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. I’m holding Masters of Science in the field of Geography & Environment.

Now I’m studding in Photography & Photojournalism from Pathshala, the South Asian Institute of Photography. I’m also working in the Drik Picture Library Ltd as an Executive in the department of Gallery and Exhibition.

My works have been published in several photo books and news papers as The Daily Star, The New Age, The Daily New Nation and so on.

1. Gurung – Lifestyle:

Their traditional occupation was based on sheep herding and trans-Himalayan trade. In the 19th and early 20th century, many Gurung were recruited to serve in the British and Indian Gurkha regiments. Today, the Singapore Police, Brunei reserve units and the French Foreign Legion employ Gurung. Many Gurung live in urban areas and are employed in all types of labor, business and professional services.

Gurungs trace their descent patrilineally, organized into two groups, or moieties of patrilineal clans.

A noted Gurung tradition is the institution of Rodi where teenagers form fictive kinship bonds and become Rodi members to socialize, perform communal tasks, and find marriage partners. I want to tell the story of a Life Style about Gurung what they do to survive.

2. Water pollution:

Nepal, paints a depressing picture of the levels of water pollution currently suffered in that country. I want to work in this issue.

Hello, my name is Soumitra Barua. I’m 23 years old. Im from Bangladesh. I’m a student of photo journalism. I like to take portrait based picture.
